Valerian - 1 OZ

Price: $12.00

Product Information:

Valerian, Latin name: Valeriana officinalis, Other names: All-heal, Amantilla, Capon's Tail, Heliotrope, Setwall, Vandal Root. A remedy for: Insomnia and Nervousness.

What It Is; Why It Works?

The Ancient Greek physician Galen referred to Valerian as "Phu," an expression of disgust at the plant's smell. In medieval times, it was given the name "All-heal," reflecting its many healing properties. It was also used as a spice and an ingredient in perfume.

The medicinal parts are the carefully dried underground stem and the dried roots. The plant's strong smell is attractive to cats, who roll in it, defeating most attempts to grow it in gardens. It is equally attractive to rats and is used by some rat-catchers. Valerian is a powerful remedy for spasms. It relaxes muscles and has a sedative effect.

This plant, which produces bright pink to white flowers, grows 20 to 40 inches in height. It is native to Europe and the temperate regions of Asia, and is cultivated in Europe, Japan, and the U.S.
